information
Prostir Idei (PI) is located in the city center near the "Troitska" public transport stop, in a private building next to St. Nicholas Cathedral. The space itself is situated in the basement and lacks an accessible entrance. Currently, PI operates primarily from Monday to Friday, 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. During the day, PI serves as the office for a civic organization, while in the evening, it becomes a hub for alternative leisure activities. The 63-square-meter space features a kitchenette area (equipped with a coffee machine, kettle, tea selection, microwave, and cookies), a workspace partially separated by bookcases—which also serve as information boards—and an area for meetings, film screenings, workshops, and exhibitions. Alcohol consumption is not permitted, though the occasional "strong word" is acceptable (especially during heated discussions about movies). We have a piano, various wind instruments, a tambourine, maracas, and plenty of gear for musical improvisation. We maintain a library with books in various languages (Ukrainian, English, German, Czech, Polish, Belarusian, and even Lithuanian) and a collection of board games, and we actively support initiatives proposed by our visitors. Our organization hosts volunteers from the European Voluntary Service and the Peace Corps. We also send young people from Ukraine to volunteer in European countries and provide guidance on participating in Erasmus+ program opportunities. Our space has hosted concerts for audiences of 70, literary readings, training sessions, film screenings with discussions, workshops, language clubs, author meet-and-greets, board game nights, political action planning (during the Maidan), theater performances, exhibitions, forum theater productions, and meetings with police and foreign volunteers.
Currently, we hold weekly game nights and film screenings with discussions (we are currently hosting screenings outdoors). In the autumn, we plan to relaunch the English conversation club and launch a series of workshops on career guidance and finding a first job in partnership with Skill Lab.
We envision the "Space of Ideas" as a place for dialogue, fostering communication, gathering and implementing ideas, and responding to the shared challenges of the local community.
The mission of "Prostir Idei" (Space of Ideas) is to create opportunities for building a society based on democratic values.
